Why is the binding important?

A sturdy library binding is the best protection for your manuscript. By library binding, we mean a hard back binding made to the American National Standard for Library Binding, including durable cloth, acid free end papers, and cold emulsion adhesives that remain flexible, providing long-lasting page attachment.

In contrast, most copy centers offer a variety of soft cover bindings, possibly of acidic materials, that will not support their contents on the shelf. Pages can become warped and distorted from slumping. Quickly assembled hard plastic or "leather look" covers may also be available, but these often attach the pages with "hot glue" that becomes brittle and lets pages fall out.
