Cataloging Policy Coordinating TeamChargeThe Cataloging Policy Coordinating Team (CPCT) organizes initiatives to develop, implement, document, and communicate cataloging policies within the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) Libraries and coordinates policies with the University System of Maryland & Affiliate Institutions (USMAI). The team will: monitor developments in cataloging practices and make recommendations for local adoption; proactively consult with groups and staff within and outside of the Technical Services Division (TSD) on cataloging policy issues; recommend to the Planning and Leadership Coordinating Team (PLCT) proposals to implement cataloging policies and procedures; work with the Training Coordinating Team to plan and conduct staff training sessions. MembershipThe core team membership will consist of the Original Cataloging Production Group (OCPG) leader, the NACO coordinator, and three other members from TSD with cataloging responsibilities. Additionally, one team member shall serve as a UMCP representative to the USMAI Cataloging Policy Committee (CPC). PLCT or CPCT may supplement the membership with other appropriate staff as necessary. The Library Information Systems (LIS) librarian will belong to the CPCT reflector and act as a consultant to CPCT. Term of ServiceThe OCPG leader and NACO coordinator hold standing positions on the CPCT. The other members commit to serve for two or three years and ordinarily serve not more than two consecutive terms. LeadershipThe Cataloging Policy Coordinating Team will function as a self-managed team and will select its own leader. The Team leader serves for two or three years and may serve consecutive terms. The Team leader also becomes a member of the Planning and Leadership Coordinating Team. SelectionTo select team members, CPCT will call for volunteers from among TSD. Applicants will write a letter of interest to CPCT and PLCT. CPCT will make recommendations and vet with PLCT in order to make a selection. In the absence of eligible volunteers, or if there are too few volunteers, PLCT can also nominate staff members with relevant backgrounds. PLCT will assure that a UMCP representative to the USMAI Cataloging Policy Committee is serving as a member of CPCT. |
