E-mail announcements Several weeks before the semester begins, User Education Services will begin sending announcements to the engl101-news email reflector letting you know it's time to submit your request(s) for Library Day. As the deadline approaches, a few more e-mail reminders will be sent. We encourage you to not only meet this deadline, but to respond as soon as possible so that we can schedule a session on a day that bests suits your needs, in an instruction lab that's large enough to accommodate everyone. Course Syllabus and Library Day Every group of students you teach can be unique, which in turn may dictate the pace of the course. We can appreciate how difficult it might be to determine the best time to schedule a Library Day class before the semester begins. Our advice is to give it your best guess, keeping in mind that you will want to: Tie a library session to an assignment or schedule it when your students have chosen topics to research; Avoid arranging a session too early in the semester before students have selected topics, or too late in the semester as students will fail to see the relevance of such a session. Online Request Form The request form helps us streamline communication between you and the library. We will gather, all at one time, your name, contact information, details about your section, and learn when would be the most convenient date to schedule a session. Wait to Receive an E-mail Confirmation Online requests are sent to User Education Services, added to a queue and processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Within 2-3 business days (Monday to Friday), we will send you an e-mail message confirming the best date and instruction lab we could arrange for you. This confirmation will instruct you to respond acknowledging receipt. If, after 3 business days, you haven't received an e-mail confirmation, contact User Education Services. Review the Library Day Teaching Schedule After the deadline for submitting requests has passed, classes are assigned to the Libraries' Special Lecturers. This can take several days to complete. Eventually, a Library Day Teaching Schedule will be produced and distributed to you via the engl101-news reflector. We need your help in reviewing the Teaching Schedule to verify its accuracy. If there are errors or discrepancies, contact User Education Services right away. Confirm Information with Library Day Instructor In the week before your Library Day session you will receive an email from the instructor for that session. Please respond promptly with information about the status of your class that could impact the approach of the Library Day instructor. Thank you for helping us make Library Day as relevant as possible for you students. Please Attend the Session with Your Students We request that you attend the Library Day class with your students. Your input during the session is an important part of its ultimate value and success. Who better to address the concerns of students about the assignment or about the direction of their research than you? We have noticed that students are also more likely to stay on task when their instructor is keeping an eye on them from the back of the lab. The special lecturer may decide to cancel the class if you do not attend. From time to time exceptions are made, but this is done in consultation with the Head of User Education Services in advance.
