Information Literacy Team (ILT)
Library Staff Survey
2006

The Information Literacy Team (ILT) needs your help!
This survey is designed to give you the unique opportunity
to contribute to reframing the purpose and goals of this team.

The initial concept for ILT is laid out in: Working Paper #2
ILT's current: Mission & Work of the Team

Because your responses will be received anonymously,
please answer these questions as honestly as possible.

1. YOU ARE A MEMBER OF WHICH LIBRARY DIVISION?

2. IMPORTANCE of INFORMATION LITERACY

In your opinion, how important is information literacy to the mission of the Libraries?

3. STAYING 'AU COURANT'

3A.At present, how are you learning about current issues, trends, developments, and best practices in information literacy?

3B. What is your preferred way of staying up-to-date about emerging developments in information literacy?

3C. If you teach, what kinds of things do you want/need to know in order to become a better instructor? List as many as you can think of:

4. ASSESSMENT

"Assessment is a critical tool for understanding library customers and offering services, spaces, collections, and tools that best meet their needs," wrote H.G. Nardini in Building a Culture of Assessment, 2001.

Assessing the effectiveness of our teaching to improve student learning is also important, and most likely will become instituted as the norm due to the Middle States Accreditation process. What role should ILT play in assessing teaching performance and/or student learning?

I do not teach.

5. ILT'S PURPOSE & GOALS

At present, is it clear to you what ILT does?

Help us design the ideal purpose for this Team. At present, User Education Services coordinates the 1st year/general program of classes, and the Subject Teams & Special Collections coordinate the teaching of subject-specific classes. What role should ILT play?

More specifically, what influence should ILT have in shaping the Libraries' information literacy programs? Choose one:

ILT should serve primarily in an advisory and/or mentoring role.
ILT should serve primarily as a decision/policy making team.
Unsure.
Other:

Are there particular groups (both inside/outside the Libraries) that ILT should be collaborating with on a regular basis? If yes, which groups?

6. MEMBERSHIP

Who should serve on ILT?

ILT should be a representative body and include these groups:

ILT should not be representative, but instead be populated by people interested in information literacy.

Other:

7. ALTERNATIVES TO ILT?

If the Information Literacy Team was dissolved, what would be the impact? Is there truly a need for a group to oversee issues related to information literacy?

8. YOUR SOAP BOX

Do you have any questions, comments or suggestions that you would like to share with the Information Literacy Team to help us reshape our purpose and goals?

Thank you for participating
in this survey!
