CLASSES
These were the library orientation sessions held in FY 1998:
VICTOR, VICTOR/EBSCO, WHERE DO I START? CLASSES
University of Maryland Libraries' present the basics of using VICTOR, the online catalog to locate materials in the Libraries.
These classes will assist you with your class projects and research needs. With hands-on practice learn to 1) search periodical indexes to find articles; and 2) use the basic commands to locate materials.
LOST IN THE LIBRARY?
A class for new library users and transfer students. This 60 minute class is a basic welcome to the UM Libraries, where highlights of getting to the libraries, finding your way around, using library materials and geting more help are addressed in a casual forum. The last 15 minutes of the class will be a quick tour of McKeldin Library, the main campus library.
TANGLED IN THE WEB
An introduction to using the Web. This 90 minute class will cover when and when not to use the Web, how to effectively use a search engine to find the information you need, how to critically evaluate Web sites, and will highlight the Libraries' Web resources. Hands-on practice time and one-on-one instruction will be provided. This class is limited to 22 participants. We suggest you bring your own topics and formatted discs with you.
WHEN IS YOUR PAPER DUE?
A class for the more advanced researcher. These 90 minute classes are for students who are getting ready to research and write a substantial paper, report or proposal. The class will be offered in these three disciplines: Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science & Technology. Hands-on practice time and one-on-one instruction will be provided. This class is limited to 30 participants. We suggest you bring your own topics and formatted discs with you.
