CLASSES
These were the library orientation sessions held in FY 2003:
LIBRARY SAFARI for UNIV 100/101 and EDCP 108
This class is offered to freshmen enrolled in UNIV 100/101 - The Student in the University (a 1 or 2 credit course covering transition to college life) and all sections of EDCP 108 - College Career and Advancement. After a brief introduction to the Libraries' web site and the catalog, students physically explore McKeldin Library in small teams, visiting service sites, using library materials and using computers to answer questions on an exercise sheet. It is a 2-hour hands-on workshop.
EPSL EXPEDITION for ENES 100
This class is offered to freshmen enrolled in ENES 100-Introduction to Engineering Design, the core introductory course for all engineering majors. Modeled on Library Safari, students explore the Engineering and Physical Sciences Library. It is a 2-hour workshop.
FIELD GUIDE TO RESEARCH for the PROFESSIONAL WRITING PROGRAM
This class is designed for juniors and seniors enrolled in the English Professional Writing Program (ENGL 391, 392, 393, 393X, 394, 395). In this session students use the majority of class time to research their topics and receive one-on-one assistance. Students are guided towards the use of more specialized sources than those covered in Library Day. This is either a 50 or 75 minute hands-on workshop.(This program was previously titled Beyond the Basics, The Basics and Beyond, and When is your paper due?)
LIBRARY DAY for ENGL 101
This class is designed for the Freshman Writing Program (ENGL 101-Introduction to Writing). It is an opportunity for students to gain the hands-on skills they need for researching their linked assignment topics.
HONR 100
This class is offered to freshmen enrolled in HONR 100 - Honors Colloquium. It is a 90-minute workshop.
GEMS 100
This class is offered to freshmen enrolled in GEMS 100 - Introduction to Gemstone. It is a 90-minute workshop.
LIBRARY LAB for BSCI 125
This class is offered to undergraduates enrolled in BSCI 125 - Laboratory in Plant Biology. It is a 2-hour workshop.
GIS WORKSHOPS
INTRODUCTION to ARCVIEW 3.2: A two-hour and thirty minute hands-on workshop that teaches the basic operations of the ArcView GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software.
SPATIAL ANALYSIS with ARCVIEW 3.2: A two-hour and thirty minute hands-on workshop exploring the more complex query and spatial analysis of vector and grid data in ArcView GIS. Prerequisite: Familiarity using ArcView.
FROM TEXTUAL to SPATIAL DATA with ARCVIEW 3.2: A hands-on workshop that discusses the conversion of text information to geographic information. Geocoding and conversion of latitude and longitude will be covered. This workshop is extremely useful! Prerequisite: Familiarity using ArcView.
