Mission

In order to respond to the heightened incidence of academic dishonesty, particularly plagiarism, on campus, the University Libraries have launched an Academic Integrity Initiative. In collaboration with campus partners, the Libraries work to raise awareness of academic integrity issues and provide information to students and educators on how to use research resources in a responsible and ethical manner.

Academic Integrity Committee

The Academic Integrity Committee coordinates the Academic Integrity Initiative, as well as the Libraries informational and instructional response to the issues of plagiarism and academic integrity. The Committee works to foster a leadership role for the Libraries in collecting and disseminating information about the issues and about campus activities concerning plagiarism and academic integrity. Note: This group is a subcommittee of the Information Literacy Team.

Committee Members

  • Diane Harvey, Chair, Undergraduate Studies Librarian
  • Maggie Cunningham, Head, User Education Services
  • Barbara Lay, Social Sciences and Allied Professions
  • Annie Young, Government Documents & Maps
  • Cindy Todd, Research and Information Services

Campus Partners

In July 2005, the Libraries hosted an Academic Integrity Summit. Representatives from units on campus that teach about academic integrity were invited to share information on their activities, needs, and ideas for collaborative projects.
The Academic Integrity Initiative is a collaborative effort among the many units on campus that are concerned with academic integrity and plagiarism:

Maryland P20 Committee on Information Literacy, Academic Integrity and Ethical Use

Collaboration among librarians and educators at all levels is an important component of the Libraries Academic Integrity Initiative. In 2005, the Maryland Partnership for Teaching and Learning PK16 created a Committee on Information Literacy, Academic Integrity and Ethical Use. The Committee's charge is to share and develop P20 promising practices on issues of library information literacy, academic integrity, and ethical use.
