You need to open a Terrapin Express (TE) Account before you can use your I.D. card to print or copy! Terrapin Express is a pre-paid debit account attached to your University ID card.
To open a Terrapin Express Account:
ONLINE:
- Go to http://terpexp.umd.edu.
- Click Open a New Account.
- Log in with your Directory ID and password.
- Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
- Click Buy Terp to create your account
- Then click Add Money to My Account to use a credit card to add money to your balance. A minimum of $20 is recommended for printing.
IN PERSON:
- Bring your student I.D. and a minimum of $1.00 to:

- Once your account has been activated, you can also add money to a Terrapin Express card using the Copy Card ATM machines in the Libraries.

UM Libraries' Photocopy Cards are intended for visitors to the Libraries, and are available for purchase for $1.00 at Copy Card ATM Machines at all Libraries on campus.
Follow the directions on the machine to buy a card.
- After purchase, the balance is 20 cents. Add more money to the card right away.
Need smaller bills?
- Use the Bill-to-Bill Exchanger machine, located next to McKeldin Library's Copy Card ATM machines (by the Circulation Desk on the first floor).
