Plagiarism Defined

Plagiarism, according to the University of Maryland Code of Academic Integrity, is "intentionally or knowingly representing the words or ideas of another as one's own in any academic exercise."

Preventing plagiarism is a significant concern in all academic institutions. This Web site seeks to contribute to this effort by colocating practical resources which contribute to the fulfillment of this goal. As such, this site contains resources which help educators assess and raise students' awareness about plagiarism, resources which suggest "plagiarism-resistant" practices in the crafting of assignments, detection practices and tools, and campus policies and procedures for resolving occurances. Although the emphasis at this point is on practicality, in future the site may address more theoretical concerns. Please use the suggestion form at the left to let us know where you would like to see the site go.
