AN OVERVIEW

TOUR or LIBRARY INSTRUCTION ?

Although we cannot provide tours of the Libraries, we welcome all requests for library instruction/orientation.

The UM library system has a huge collection of advanced materials. Due to its size and complexity, we suggest library staff meet with your group and spend some time figuring out how our system works (online catalog, periodical databases, etc.). An instruction session will help reduce the frustration and anxiety that your group may have about using UM Libraries. Library research is not a clear cut linear process and every library is arranged differently. Visiting scholars will be able to take new directions or unexpected turns if they understand the basic steps in doing library research, and understand how our collections are arranged.
