Accessing Course Reserves

Login to ELMS Canvas using your directory ID and password.

Select your course from the drop down menu that appears under the "Courses" or "Courses & Groups" tab.

Select “Modules” from the left-hand navigation menu.

Then select “Course Reserves” from the “Libraries” module.

A list of items the professor placed on Reserve will appear on the refreshed page.

If the reading is a digital copy:

1. Select the PDF or web link icon to go directly to the document

2. Select the title, then on the subsequent page click “view this item”

If the reading is available in print only, the item will have a “Flag” icon next to the title. A copy will be placed on reserve at McKeldin Library or the branch library selected by the professor.

To find out the availability of the print copy, click on the title or flag, then click on the “Availability” link that appears in the refreshed page.

The "Availability" link will take you to the catalog record of the reserve item. All copies of the item and the availability will be displayed.  Most libraries will have Course Reserves behind the Circulation desk.  Some will have the items shelved by call number.  *Make sure to note the call number from the Course Reserve record so you can locate the item at the library*

The course reserves copy will display the library where the item is held, as well as loan information and if it is available for check out.  If the item is currently checked out, the time it is due back will display in the “status/due date” column (see yellow highlighted record below).

To Check Out Another Copy:

1. If you would like to check out another copy of the title, and one is available, you may obtain it by selecting the “request” button (circled button/icon above)

2. Go to the library that has the title “on shelf” and pulling it from the stacks yourself by using the call number to locate the item (see blue highlighted record above)
