Donating to the Architecture Library
The Architecture Library welcomes monetary donations and gifts-in-kind from patrons.
Donations of large collections, particularly those of archival interest or broad subject coverage, should be coordinated through the Gifts-in-Kind Librarian at McKeldin Library. For further information on donating to the University of Maryland Libraries check Guidelines for Making Donations to the UM libraries.
Process for Donating Materials to the Architecture Library
When a list of proposed gift titles is received, it is checked against the library collection. Items we do not own are routed to the appropriate subject specialist to be considered for addition to the collection.
Gifts are only accepted unconditionally; that is, the Architecture Library reserves the right to determine the disposition of the donated materials. Unwanted materials are generally put on our giveaway table for students to take. Donors are sent an acknowledgement letter from the library.
To discuss making a donation to the Architecture Library, please contact Patti Cossard, Head of the Art and Architecture Libraries.
Although the library can acknowledge receipt of gifts, we cannot provide donors with appraisals of the gifts for tax purposes. If a donor requires an appraisal, we recommend that he or she consult an independent appraiser prior to making the donation, or use a list of the donated titles to check against used book seller inventories for approximate current valuations.
