Membership Information

Purpose
The DC-MD-VA Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) was founded in 1973 to advance the cause of art librarianship and to encourage the development, successful management, and enlightened use of art libraries and visual resources collections.

Meetings
Meetings offer members the opportunity to become familiar with area libraries, to meet colleagues, and discuss current library issues. Meetings are held at museums, art institutions, and colleges and universities throughout the region.

Web Site
The Chapter's website is located at http://www.lib.umd.edu/arlis/.

Membership
Membership in the Chapter is open to interested persons, including students, and to personal members of ARLIS/NA and the staffs of member institutions, upon payment of Chapter dues. Members participate in Chapter activities and receive announcements of meetings, a membership directory, and a newsletter.

The Chapter also publishes a list of members - with institutional contact information - on the Chapter Web site. A space is provided on the member information form (at bottom left) to indicate if you do not wish to be included in the Web site listing.

Caroline Backlund Travel Award update
In Spring 2002, the first annual Caroline Backlund Travel Award was granted to assist a chaptermember in attending the ARLIS/NA Annual National Conference. The award is named in honor of Caroline Backlund, a longtime ARLIS/NA and local Chapter member who is now retired from a distinguished and influential career in art librarianship.

Contributions to the Travel Award Fund and Diversity Committee Award are solicited annually, along with membership renewal or application. Thanks to generous donations, the fund is definitely healthy; however, it will need to be replenished each year in order to provide an annual grant. Please consider making a contribution in any amount. Donation sum may be included on the same bank draft as membership dues - please indicate the amount on the member information form.
