About UsThe Art and Architecture Libraries occupy separate facilities, comprising two of the eight University of Maryland Libraries. Each library has its unique collections and offers somewhat different services.
Art LibraryThe Art Library houses more than 100,000 volumes in the areas of art history, archaeology, decorative arts and studio arts, including photography and graphic design. Library services and resources support the instructional and research needs of both undergraduate and graduate-level coursework, as well as independent scholarly research. Displays featuring aspects of the collection are regularly mounted outside the library in the atrium of the Art/Sociology Building. Architecture LibraryThe Architecture Library holds 65,000 titles in the areas of architectural history, design, and theory; historic preservation; landscape architectural design; real estate development; and urban studies and planning. The collections are particularly strong in the works of individual architects and architectural firms. The library's Special Collections is home to a notable World's Fair Collection comprising material on International Expositions from 1851 to present, as well as rare architectural volumes. Resources and services support the instructional and research needs of both undergraduate and graduate-level coursework. As part of the 2008 renovation, a display case was installed at the library entrance. Displays feature topical subjects related to current library and School interests. Suggest a title that we should purchase for our collections. |
