Article Express Now Available

February 18th, 2011

The library service formerly known as Faculty Document Delivery is now called Article Express, and it is open to graduate students as well as faculty. If you have never used document delivery or don’t know or remember what it is, I offer a refresher below. If you regularly use document deliver, all you need to know is the name has changed and the process for placing a request is the same, and you can stop reading now.

Here’s the refresher.

If you are a graduate student or a faculty member you can use Article Express to get a journal article delivered to you online, even if the journal only exists in paper on the library’s shelves. I would expect this service to be especially handy if you need something that is only at McKeldin, but you can use it to request articles from the Performing Arts Library as well.

To request an article:

1. Log in to interlibrary loan services http://www.lib.umd.edu/ILL/Welcome.html
2. In the left-hand column click Request Article Express
3. Fill out the online form (you’ll need the article citation, don’t worry about call number or which library)

Note, some articles might already be available online, which is faster than waiting for us to scan, so check the full-text finder first: http://www.lib.umd.edu/ETC/fulltext.html

Once you place the request, we’ll get the journal off the shelf, scan it to a PDF, and provide you with a link. You can download it, print it, whatever. The whole process should take less than three days. If for some reason we can’t provide the article we’ll turn your request into an interlibrary loan request and get it from another library.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
