LibGuide Mania!
November 30th, 2011
Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library now has updated LibGuides! Today I’m going to give you the rundown on a few things:
- What are LibGuides?
- What LibGuides are up now?
- What’s MSPAL’s most popular interdisciplinary LibGuide?
What are LibGuides?
Remember the old guides, where you would just scroll down a long page of listed resources?
LibGuides is a program hosted by SpringShare that makes subject guides and course guides more user friendly. You can browse LibGuides by going to http://lib.guides.umd.edu or by clicking the “Ace your courses with these guides” button on the right sidebar of the library homepage.
The guides provide a format similar to a blog or a facebook page. There are various tabs which hold different sections of material and each page can have up to three columns of information.
You can find MSPAL guides in the subjects Music, Music Education, Theatre, Dance, and Special Collections in the Performing Arts

What’s MSPAL’S most popular interdisciplinary LibGuide?
MSPAL has two interdisciplinary LibGuides, The Citation Guide and The Linking Guide.
By far the most popular has been the Linking Guide. With 1130 hits since its creation in late July and counting, The Linking Guide is quickly catching up to some of the most popular guides on campus. This guide includes handy information about linking to University of Maryland resources on and off campus!
MSPAL is thrilled to be serving you with these LibGuides. We’re currently working on a Locating Primary Sources guide for music.
Enjoy!
