2008 Library Survey Available

The UM Libraries are currently conducting a survey of our users. This is a follow-up survey to one that was conducted in 2004. We are looking for feedback to help us improve our services, collections, and facilities. Some of the changes that were implemented based on results of the 2004 survey included:
- Access to email from library workstations
- Additional study space in McKeldin
- The purchase of new equipment
- Reshelving of materials for easier access
The survey is very simple and asks the following questions
- What are the good things about the library?
- What are the inadequate things?
- How do you feel about the library as a place to do your work?
- What else can the Libraries be doing to help you in your study and research?
The survey is available in any campus library from Wednesday, November 12 through Tuesday, November 18. The Performing Arts Library’s copies are located at the circulation desk. You can pick up a survey, fill it out, and then place it in the survey drop box. The survey is completely confidential.We are looking forward to your feedback.

Is there any chance that we could see the addition of carrels/lockers for grad students and faculty? That would certainly be a great addition to the library.

Thanks, Robert. This is a good suggestion, and one that we do hear occasionally. We’ll definitely take it into consideration.
There are, in fact, some lockers in the library that are available for day use. These lockers are in the hallway on the way into the Lowens Room. They are available to anyone on a first-come first -served basis. Just put your stuff in them and take the key. I think what you are suggesting, though, is something more along the lines of a locker you could reserve for a whole semester. That’s something we would have to look into and weigh against all the other requests we get.
The survey ends tomorrow (I think!) and once it’s over I will try to compile some of the many suggestions we get and post them here.
