The Rest is Noise wins the Guardian First Book Award
December 4th, 2008 by Steve
The Rest is Noise, Alex Ross’s popular history of 20th century music, has been named the recipient of the 2008 Guardian First Book Award. The announcement, which appeared in yesterday’s Guardian, called the book “an intricate, kaleidoscopic, all-embracing history of 20th-century music from Mahler to La Monte Young.”
PAL’s copy of this book (Stacks | ML197.R76 2007) is perpetually checked out, but while you’re waiting for your recall request to go through, you might enjoy taking a look at Ross’s blog (also called The Rest is Noise), or checking out some of the work he has done as music critic for The New Yorker, which is available in multiple electronic forms through Research Port.
