The conference is being held at the University of Maryland, a suburban university of approximately 35,000 students, located in College Park, eight miles from the Capitol building in Washington, DC. The university is comprised of eleven colleges and schools, and offers 111 undergraduate majors and 96 graduate programs. For more facts about the university, see the UM Fact Card.

Conference location

Conference events will take place on-campus in McKeldin Library (#035 on the campus map). A floor plan of the library is available.

College Park Metro

The College Park Metro Station is located on River Road off Paint Branch Parkway, approximately 1 mile from campus. The Metro system runs from 5:00 AM to midnight Monday-Thursdays, 5:00 - 2:00 AM on Fridays, 8:00 - 2:00 AM on Saturdays, and 8:00 AM to midnight on Sundays. The College Park Metro Station UM Shuttle leaves approximately every ten minutes or less from the UM Shuttle stop on the east side of the station. It will drop you off at Lot HH, across the street from the Adele Stamp Student Union (#163 on the campus map). McKeldin Library is less than a three minute walk from here. The nearest hotel to the Metro is the Quality Inn.

Adele H. Stamp Student Union

Many resources are located in Adele Stamp Student Union, a floor plan of which is available online.

Medical emergencies

In case of a serious health emergency, dial 911 from any phone for immediate assistance.

The University Health Center (phone 301-314-8180) on campus across from Stamp Union offers an Urgent Care clinic, which is open from 8 AM to 8 PM on weekdays and 9 PM to 5 PM on weekend. There is a fee for visitors who are not UMD students.

Convenience stores

The Adele Stamp Student Union has a convenience store called the Union Shop on the ground floor. Off-campus, there is a 7-11 convenience store on Knox Road across from the shopping plaza with the CVS.

Banking and ATM

A branch of Chevy Chase Bank as well as ATM machines are located on the ground floor of Stamp Student Union. The bank branch is open 9 AM - 4 PM and closed on Saturdays.

Pharmacy

The closest pharmacy to campus is the CVS Pharmacy at 7200 Baltimore Blvd. in the shopping plaza at the intersection of Knox Rd. (phone: 301-277-6114). It is just north of the Quality Inn.

Restaurants

A number of restaurants are available in the Stamp Union, including a Food Court on the ground floor, the Co-op in the Basement of the new wing (specializing in vegetarian and vegan foods), and Adele's Restaurant (a fine-dining establishment on the first floor).

There are a number of restaurants in College Park along Route 1, including Plato's Diner (diner fare and Greek specialties, next to the Quality Inn), Santa Fe Restaurant (Tex-Mex food, on Knox Rd.), Applebee's (chain restaurant, at intersection with Hartwick Rd.), and the Cornerstone Grill (American cuisine and bar, at intersection with Knox Rd.).
