WorkshopsIntroduction to XML and the TEI27-28 September 20059:30 AM–5:00 PMThis two-day, hands-on workshop, which has been certified by the TEI Council, provides a basic introduction to the theory and practice of encoding electronic texts for the humanities using Extensible Markup Language (XML) and its subset for the humanities, the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained an understanding of markup languages and the TEI Guidelines, how to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) with TEI, and hands-on practice encoding several literary texts using TEILite. More information....Demystifying EAD28 September 20059:00 AM–4:30 PMThis one-day workshop will include an overview of the benefits of using Encoded Archival Description (EAD), a discussion of the types of tools/solutions available for implementation of EAD (EAD Cookbook, hand-coding, database driven); and a discussion of the "minimum" tag requirements. The workshop is designed to help archivists decide if EAD is right for their institutions, and, if so, to help to conceptualize an institutional EAD plan. More information....
