Usage fees
A use fee will be assessed for each image used and for each edition produced by a publisher. All requestors are asked to donate up to three copies of the product being published for the Libraries holdings.
Media request (short, time-driven):
One-time use No fee

Commercial media, by print run:
1 to 5,000 copies $50
5,000 to 20,000 $100
20,001 and up $200
Publications by governmental agencies, non-profit or charitable organizations, academic press, historical societies, or professional organizations are not charged a use fee.

The images and text contained in this digital collection are provided freely for educational purposes only. Images and text may not be borrowed or reproduced beyond educational use without obtaining permission from the University of Maryland Libraries and the copyright holder. In most cases, the University is the owner of the copyright.

Requestors of rights to reproduce and use images and/or text from this collection must obtain permission and comply with all requirements of the owner regarding notice. The requestor must agree to hold the University, its agents and employees harmless from any and all claims of liability of any kind arising out of or related to their use of the protected material. The requestor must agree not to modify or alter the protected material in any way other than what is necessary to reproduce or format the image for publication or posting on the Internet. Any and all use of such material will be accompanied by a copyright notice, attribution to the named collection, acknowledgement of the photographer, if applicable, and the credit line, "University of Maryland Libraries."

Copyright law requires requestors to make reasonable efforts to contact the copyright holder. In the case that the copyright holder is unknown or has failed to respond to requests for permission despite reasonable efforts, a waiver to the University is required from the requestor.
