Friends of the Libraries Borrowers Program

Basic borrowing and Interlibrary Loan privileges at the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) Libraries are available to individual donors of $150 or more annually; nonprofit donors of $1,000 or more annually; and corporate donors of $1,500 or more annually.

  Benefits Offered to Friends of the Libraries Borrowers

  1. Borrowing from UMCP Libraries
    • A 56-day loan period (all loans are subject to recall).
    • Unlimited loans and renewals of circulating materials.
    • Access to hold and recall services for UMCP materials already checked out.
    • Access to Patron Information from the on-line catalog.

  2. Interlibrary Loan
    • The Interlibrary Loan Office (ILL) exists to meet the instructional, research and scholarly needs of UM faculty, staff, students, and Friends of the Library. ILL can obtain many books and articles from journals not held in the UMCP Libraries. Books, periodical articles, dissertations, microforms, government documents, and technical reports are just some of the types of materials ILL can obtain for you. (Remote access to Ebsco Information Services Alumni Edition Databases is no longer being offered as a benefit. Current users will continue to receive access to the databases through the end of their subscription period, but there will be no new subscriptions and no renewal of those already in existence. To Apply in Person

Please call the External Relations Office at (301) 314-5674 to make an appointment. Cards are processed Monday – Friday between 9:00am – 4:00pm. Once processed, cards are available for use immediately.

To Apply by Mail

If you apply by mail, you will receive your Card in 1-2 weeks. Follow instructions on the Enrollment Form [PDF].

  Other ways to obtain benefits

Students, faculty, staff, and other eligible individuals have access to free borrowing privileges through their University of Maryland affiliation. Check to see if you qualify.

Membership in the UM Alumni Association includes basic borrowing privileges at the University Libraries.
