Landscan Population Dataset is Here!

We have just acquired (thanks to faculty and Gemstone team requests) the Landscan Global Population Dataset.  This dataset shows "ambient" population for the whole world - this means it shows the geographical distribution of population at one-kilometer resolution over an average 24-hour period.  This makes richer analysis possible since you can see how the population is scattered during the day.

There are three ways to access the Landscan dataset.

  1. If you just want to explore it, use the web interface.
  2. If you are a GIS software user, you can access it via  WMS (http://wms.cartographic.com/LandScan2013/)
  3. If you need your own copy of the data for educational use, come to McKeldin Library and use the dataset on DVD
