JOINT TASK FORCE
Contact the Task Force at clis-umlibs@umd.edu
The College of Information Studies (CLIS) - UM Libraries Joint Task Force is charged to:
- Review work practices and resources and establish expectations and guidelines for supporting the ongoing operation of the Wasserman Library during its transition in Fall 2005.
- Develop plans to integrate the staff, services and collections of the College of Information Studies' Wasserman Library into the UM Libraries.
- Review draft plans with the CLIS faculty and the Library Executive Council.
- See that agreed-on plans are implemented.
Guidelines and Working Principles for Task Force
and Three Subcommittees (Collections, Services, Stacks Shift & Move)
At its first meeting on August 26, 2005, the Task Force (TF) identified some practices that it wanted documented and distributed so the subcommittees and the TF are working with common understandings and processes. Following are guidelines and working principles to aid all four groups.
Task Force and Subcommittee Guidelines
- The TF will meet in person monthly, with in-between e-mails as needed. Meetings are scheduled for September 30, October 28, November 18 and December 16. Meetings in 2006 will be set later.
- If two additional CLIS faculty members join the TF, the quorum will be 5; if not, the quorum will be 4.
- The subcommittees will be expected to provide monthly progress reports (along with unresolved questions) in writing two days before each TF meeting. Each subcommittee should have at least one co-chair attend the TF meetings to report, resolve questions, etc.
- Subcommittees should provide the TF drafts of announcements that they want to distribute, to CLIS faculty and students, UM Libraries staff and/or other groups.
- The TF will have a public Web site for minutes and related TF documents of general interest. Subcommittee documents will be posted as appropriate.
Working Principles
The transfer and integration of staff, services and materials will be accomplished to provide optimal results for CLIS faculty and students.
The TF and subgroups will strive to see that, except for a few materials that will remain in CLIS laboratory space for purposes of instruction, the staff, library services and most materials are transferred to McKeldin.
CLIS will maintain its own copy and IT-support operations.
The TF expects to review and support sub-group recommendations. The TF will forward recommendations it deems appropriate/necessary to the CLIS and UM Libraries deans for decisions/action.
The Libraries' Collection Management Team and the Technical Services Division will work with CLIS and its subject-librarian liaison as it does with other colleges, in terms of new purchases, journals, weeding, remote shelving, etc.
