Serials Transfers
VIA EMAIL First, back runs of CLIS serials that were closed in 1995 or earlier will be sent to MOSS rather than be transferred to McKeldin. Karen Patterson has been consulted to identify any individual titles that should remain on campus because they are high use and not available in any other format. As with all serial holdings in MOSS, volumes can be delivered to campus within 2 business days or if specific articles are needed a copy is sent directly to the requestor. Second, we will transfer JSTOR titles from the call number areas where space is needed in McKeldin. This plan will affect titles in CC, D, G, H, LB, P and a handful of other areas. In-house use data indicates print volumes of JSTOR titles, with rare exceptions, are getting little or no use. Any use that is indicated is likely to be use of the most recent 5 years that are not yet online. Only the volumes that are currently in JSTOR will be transferred. If the title is continued without interruption by Project Muse or by a publisher with whom we are e-only, the full run will be transferred. JSTOR titles will be kept in a dark archive, not in MOSS since demands for space in MOSS are outpacing availability and plans to build a second module for MOSS have not received necessary funding. Furthermore, we are trying to reduce duplication with JHU in MOSS and Hopkins has the core journals that constitute JSTOR, as well. Part of the transfer process will include adding information to the Catalog to ensure that users will be directed to the online version. Additionally, a USMAI committee is nearing the end of its work on the implementation of SFX in the Catalog. When the FindIt button is in the Catalog researchers will have another avenue of access to the online version(s) of our journals. Transfers will be highly selective; this is *not* the beginning of a full-scale project to transfer JSTOR materials out of McKeldin. Attached is a list of titles and the years that will be transferred. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Susanna for the CLIS/UM Libraries Collection Subcommittee: |
