SUBCOMMITTEE ON SERVICES
Minutes of the November 15 Meeting
Attending: Diane Barlow, Paula Hayes (co-chairs; P. Hayes recording), Tim Hackman, Jennifer Tate, Marilyn White
Absent: Tanner Wray
Most of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of the Cataloging Collection. Specifics on the print collection are as follows:
*there are approximately 250 titles
* 64 titles are unique to the collection
* the Model Catalog” & older LC classification collections contain about 50 titles.
Tim will check with Dr. Soergel regarding the need to keep older titles.
*5 of the Model Catalog titles are not duplicated elsewhere
Possibilities: various scenarios for the Cataloging Collection were considered.
- Transfer 45 unique titles to McKeldin. Issues: access is critical. Tim will check with Cindy Todd to insure that these materials would go to McKeldin Reference. Withdraw remaining titles and place in storage so that they may be retrieved when needed.
- Provide space at CLIS for the collection. Issues: maintenance, security, rules of use, and the possibility of additional requests to add material.
Electronic Resources:
There are currently 2 specified IP addresses for the Cataloger’s Desktop. These will have to be maintained. In the short term, space is an issue. Suggested possibilities include using the terminals behind the Information/Research Services Desk in McKeldin or investigating terminals in Hornbake. In the long-term, these will be housed and maintained in CLIS. ITD (Uche Enwesi) handles the license.
Diane will draft a report to the Task Force detailing the two scenarios and their respective benefits and problems.
