The UM Libraries Digital Reference Committee and the UM College of Information Studies present a lecture
series intended to foster current awareness of the state of digital reference library services. The series is open to
UM faculty and staff, campus/area library school students, and to area librarians.

- Netspeak
is the term for the "language" used by the younger generation as they communicate over the Internet by chat, e-mail, and instant messaging. Joseph Rawson and Carolyn Gillespie, Univeristy of Maryland University College Libraries, explored the use of Netspeak in online chat reference transactions, and implications for librarians. The presentation took place on April 5, 2006, at McKeldin Library.

- The Future of Reference explored the dramatic changes affecting reference service and new challenges faced by librarians. This panel discussion took place on April 6, 2005 in the McKeldin Library Special Events Room (room 6137).
- The Digital Reference Transition
Speaker was R. David Lankes, PhD, Executive Director of the Information Institute of Syracuse (IIS) and an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies. Lecture was given Wednesday, March 17, 2004, 1:30-3:00 pm, McKeldin Special Events Room.

Speaker was Laura Gordon-Murnane, Intranet Webmaster at The Bureau of National Affairs. Lecture was given Wednesday, November 5, 2003, 10:00 am-noon, McKeldin Special Events Room.
