VISION

As trainers, coaches and practitioners of facilitation, the Facilitators Team advances the ability of Library groups to be self-managing, productive and effective. We are a visible resource for organizational development striving to model excellence in our work while staying committed to continuous learning. We boldly go where no team has gone before.

MISSION

The mission of the Facilitators Team is to support and facilitate organizational change and improvement in the UM Libraries through the use of a variety of group process activities and tools.

VALUES

As Facilitators:

  • We promote cooperation, participation, and teamwork within groups.
  • We advocate the basic ground rules of confidentiality, respect for one another, open-mindedness, appreciation of diversity, equality, and collaboration.
  • We utilize our skills to forward consensus and draw upon individual members' creativity to discover new pathways and create excellent group products that are greater than one individual could have created.
  • We model responsible leadership and teamwork by being prepared, constantly refining and updating our skills, and exhibiting integrity.

Our efforts contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization and promote a sense of joy, spirit of play, and feeling of community with the groups and the larger organization.

The Work of the Team is Accomplished By:
  • Facilitating the work of short-term groups, committees, teams or task forces for the term of the work.

  • Facilitating the work of permanent groups, committees, teams or task forces for defined period of time.

  • Facilitating Library events such as Town Meetings and All Staff Meetings.

  • Providing process consultation support when groups, committees, teams or task forces want to learn how to facilitate for themselves.

  • Conducting peer training on how to use group process tools and techniques.

  • Continuously learning about and practicing group process tools and techniques during the team's monthly meetings, brown bag lunches, tool training sessions or other training opportunities.

  • Practicing giving one another constructive feedback during the course of meeting time and during facilitation work.

  • Participating in planning activities that shape the direction of the Team and evaluation of the Team's work.
