Minutes of the Goodwill Committee
May 21,
2004
McKeldin Library Room 7113
Present: , Judy Dillon, Johnnie Love, Jim Miller, Joan Morris, Deep Sarin, Evelyn Yocco
Absent: Alla Balannik
Roles: Facilitator: Judy, Notetaker: Jim
1. Additions / Changes to Agenda
We deferred final decision on meeting dates until new members join us this summer.
2. Student Assistant Appreciation Week “Redux”
Judy has an Excel file of supervisors' responses to call for names of students, when we
were planning the number of gift packets needed. This should help us prepare for next year's
event. She also reported that the event cost less than we had allotted.
3. Financial Report
The balance in our account was $1261.75 at the time of our report to LEC at their March 30,
2004 meeting. We have sent quite a number of cards, flower arrangements and gifts recently,
and the bills for these sometimes go directly to Johnnie and other times to the GWC box in the
mailroom. We will work to reconcile these expenses by the next meeting.
4. Report to LEC
Johnnie and Judy reported to LEC the accomplishments of the Goodwill Committee, and got
their promise of more involvement in recruiting new members, faculty as well as staff. Gerri Foudy
has agreed to join us, and a graduate assistant from Architecture has shown interest. LEC also
supported a policy of not letting other meetings conflict with Library-wide events.
5. Craft and Bake Sale PR
We set December 2, 2004 as a tentative date for the Craft and Bake Sale. We will set a backup
date later on, when we have a better idea of what other events are happening. We had sent email
announcements out well ahead of time last year. Joan agreed to be contact person again this year.
6. Fall Luncheon
We set Thursday, September 23, 2004 as the date for the annual Fall Luncheon; with Thursday,
September 30th as a backup date. Deep has the list of September event themes from last year. One
possible theme might be "Banned Books Week" (maybe Herb Foerstel as speaker?)
7. Next meeting: June 18, 2004 10-11am
