Minutes

Minutes of the Goodwill Committee
October 15, 2004
McKeldin Library Room 7113

Present: Alla Balannik, Marian Dorsey, Johnnie Love, Jim Miller, Joan Morris, Deep Sarin
Absent: Chamisa Carson, Gerri Foudy, Ambika Sankaran, Joan Stahl

Roles: Facilitator: Johnnie, Notetaker: Jim

1. Welcome Luncheon Evaluation.

The Luncheon seemed to go well. We overlooked arranging for photographs of it, but Joan Stahl has agreed to write an article for Library Matters, and will include a graphic from our flyer. Late September seems to be a good time to have next year's Luncheon.

2. Organization and Structure of the Committee.

We changed our meeting date to Thursday, to help several members who are finding Friday very difficult to make. We agreed that a subgroup or working committee will sometimes meet when the whole committee cannot. Deep and Joan Morris are rotating off the committee in January 2005. Alla, Jim, Marian, Gerri, Johnnie, and Joan Stahl will stay on. Lisa Warner is willing to help with sending flowers, cards, etc.

3. Prepare for Craft and Bake Sale.

Joan Morris will call people who were vendors last year. She will forward the flyer and application form to Jim, for emailing to all staff. She will get pots for flowers. Plants from Neal Kaske are already in Joan Stahl's office awaiting the sale. Crafters will do their own tables, but we will need to staff the baked goods table. Deep, Marian, Alla and Jim offered to help with this table. We agreed to repeat last year's raffle; $1 per ticket and $5 for 6 tickets. The vendors will each donate 1 item to the raffle. We will try to spread the word about the Craft and Bake Sale, and send another email around November 15.

4. Report on Cards, Flowers, Baby Gifts, and Memorials

Johnnie is currently working with Evelyn Yocco to get a current financial report. We have sent very many cards, flowers, and memorial gifts in the past 2 months, and funds are getting low.

5. Fundraising.

We discussed our decision not to have a fund drive this past year because of good receipts in the Craft and Bake Sale. Since we are now low in funds, we agreed that a fund drive should happen every year, even if the amount is less in some years than others. We plan to have a donation box at this year's Craft and Bake sale, and will discuss a possible February fund drive at our future meetings.

6. Next meeting: November 11, 2004 10-11am, McKeldin 7113.

  • Final plans for Craft and Bake Sale December 2, 2004
  • Recruiting New Members
  • Report on Cards, Memorials, General Finances
  • Plan for Donation Drive
