Minutes

Minutes of the Goodwill Committee
July 13, 2005
McKeldin Library Room 6103

Present: Johnnie Love, Jim Miller, Gail Rumper
Absent: Alla Balannik, Chamisa Carson, Marian Dorsey, Deep Sarin, Ambika Sankaran

Roles: Facilitator: Johnnie, Notetaker: Jim

1. Review of March 3, 2005 Minutes, and Activities Since Then.

We approved the March 3 minutes. Johnnie noted that the April 12 Student Appreciation Pizza Lunch was well attended at both McKeldin and EPSL.

2. Goodwill Committee Membership.

We welcomed Gail Rumper from the Architecture Library, who is replacing Joan Stahl on the committee. We currently do not have members from Hornbake, Performing Arts Library, and Collection Management. Lisa Warner in Personnel has been very helpful in sending gifts for the Committee, and may join officially.

3. Goodwill Committee Web Site and Reflector.

Joan Stahl will turn the reflector over to Gail Rumper. Our web site needs significant revision and updating. We may need to use templates to revise some of the very attractive but now outdated pages that Jennifer Evans designed in 2002 and 2003, because of our lesser HTML skills. Jim will continue routine updating of the pages, and Gail hopes to help out after taking HTML training in the near future.

4. Goodwill Committee Budget, Cards, and Memorials Status.

Johnnie reported that there have been many gifts and memorials sent. She will reorganize our budget and send via email to staff. We can also publish it on our web site. As of July 13, 2005 our balance is $663.02, but we are expecting a bill for $40.00. The average price for dish gardens and memorials has increased from $25 to $30 over the past 2 years.

5. Plans for 2005/2006 Academic Year.

Gail has offered to work on our fundraising activities, with help from other Committee members. We discussed various ways of soliciting donations, including having a place at the Thursday, September 22 Welcome Luncheon for people to contribute - especially if they prefer donating money to bringing a potluck dish. We decided to make the University's 150th anniversary a theme for the Luncheon, and also to honor the 40th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. We will look for items that show the history of the Libraries in particular. We will have our annual Craft and Bake Sale on Thursday, December 9th.

6. Next Meeting August 4, 2005, McKeldin 6103.

Agenda will include plans for September 22 Welcome Luncheon.
