Goodwill CommitteeMinutesMinutes of the Good Will Committee Members Present: Alla Balannik, Judy Dillon, Jennifer Evans, Amrita Kaur, Jim Miller, Joan Morris, George Ramsey, Evelyn Yocco Members not Present: Chamisa Carson, Johnnie Love, Deep Sarin, Lisa Wheeler I. Treasurer's Report II. Discuss and evaluate the luncheon Question raised: Was the luncheon a combined effort with the Diversity Committee? If event is co-sponsored next year, Diversity Committee should be more involved in the planning and execution of the luncheon. Perhaps some joint planning meetings with both of the committees is needed. New staff should be introduced at the beginning of the event next year. Although more people than last year brought recipes, an effort should be made to get recipes for every dish. Not only will that increase the number of entries for the cookbook but it will also prevent people from eating an undesired ingredient. Form for recipes should be made next year that can be folded in half, like tent cards, with the name of the dish and the ingredients at the top of the page to set next to each dish. This will make it easier to read the ingredients and will keep the papers from slipping around the table.
Members understood that Diversity Committee will take lead on putting together cookbook. Expressed concern about copyright issues for those recipes taken from other cookbooks. Diversity Committee should perhaps call the Legal Office to discuss this issue. IV. Bake/Craft Sale Review of last year's event: baked goods are donated and go quickly, especially quick breads, cookies, brownies, and anything chocolate. Punch and coffee were provided by the committee for free. GWC set the price for baked goods. Crafters either donated all of the proceeds to the committee or GWC collected 20%. Libraries staff only. This year there will be crafts, baked goods, plant clippings, and raffle tickets for sale Amrita donated silk scarf and tablecloth, Jennifer will put together a basket of goodies, and maybe a poinsetta for the raffle. People who have artwork to sell will also be encouraged to participate. Raffle tickets will be 6 for $5 or 1 for $1. Is there a way to involve the branches more? Satellite sale at Hornbake was discussed or maybe taking around baked goods to the branches for sale. In the past, the committee has purchased muffins and taken them around to the branches as a free surprise. Joan coordinated craft sale at UMUC that did really well. Crafters were responsible for selling a certain amount of raffle tickets for one of their items before the event and the people at the sale could buy raffle tickets and/or actual craft items. They had a form, outlining all of the rules that had to be completed before the crafter could participate. Need to start earlier with publicity next year. V. Cards VI. Update of Website VII. Recent resignations VIII. Survey Next meeting: November 8, 2002, Hornbake Library Respectfully submitted by Jennifer Evans, Secretary on November 5,
