Information and Research Services (IRS) Team
Core Responsibilities
for Providing Information and Research Services
As providers of information and research services, we fulfill the following roles:
Information Provider
Answer directional, informational, reference, and complex reference questions
in person, by telephone, chat or email, or other method of communication
to assist patrons of the University of Maryland Libraries and make referrals
as needed.
Teacher and Learner
Teach patrons how to find and use library resources, train students and
new staff, create information resources (e.g. guides and web pages), and
develop and maintain skills and knowledge.
Administrator
Explain and enforce library policies, troubleshoot equipment (e.g. pay-for-print,
photocopiers, workstations), gather data (e.g. reference transaction sampling)
and check out special loan materials.
