Library Assembly > Library Assembly Advisory Council Meetings
Streamlining Agenda
from the Joint LAAC/LEC Meeting, February 18, 2009, revised and updated 3/3/09; revised updated 3/13/09
Items moved to standing committees for evaluation:
FMC & FAROC:
Merge Merit & Performance Review (FMC & FAROC)
Consolidate and Automate Faculty Activities Reporting within a information management system so that data can be studied and reported at the macro level as well as micro level
FAROC:
FAROC/HR processes: It is this committee's job to oversee the annual workplan/review process and ensure that the midtrack review is completed. The paperwork that demonstrates that each person in the process has done their job is submitted directly to FAROC. The work appears to be mostly clerical in nature, in that the group verifies that paperwork is received. To my knowledge there is no effort to evaluate the quality of the material sent. It seems to me that the work could be streamlined if the paperwork is submitted to Library HR and HR then, generates a report listing the forms received. The oversight committee then can notify supervisors of any lack of compliance. I think this would lighten the load enough to question whether a separate committee is needed for this work (could AAPSC take on the review of a report?). If however, it is decided that FAROC needs to perform a qualitative review, particularly of the midtrack, then of 5-year review and annual (post-tenure) review, then this group needs to have a membership of individuals who have already achieved permanent status
CoC & NEVPC:
Merge the work of CoC into NEVPC (CoC) has had no charges to write, thus no work, this year
LFRFC:
Is there a way to make the work of LFRFC more efficient or effective by working closer with Library Assessment Review Committee (LARC)
APPSC:
Reconsider the non-departmentalized unit model as an efficient model, would it be more effective/efficient to use the departmental model… Push some work from the library-wide level to division-level, e.g., APPS cases being voted on at the first level in the division, then the library at the second level
LAAC:
Meeting Schedules: Is monthly too often?
Eliminate 5-year Reviews of Team Leaders/Managers: LEC discussed over a period of 2 meetings and decided to table the five-year review discussion, awaiting campus clarification of post-tenure review requirements and process, and then raise the library question about five-year reviews again.
Brainstorming items removed:
- Merge SAC and library-wide staff committees: Staff Awards Committee, Diversity Team, Goodwill Committee
- Merge Library Assembly meetings and All Staff Meetings
- Mid-track review evaluation (FAROC & APPSC)
