Election Procedures and Eligibility


LFA Officers

For position descriptions see the relevant section of the Plan of Organization. For current officers see the roster.

Q: How many positions are filled each year?
A: Two: Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect and Secretary.

Q: When are these elections held?
A: Nominations will open at the February Assembly meeting and close at the March Assembly meeting.

Q: When do the terms begin and end?
A: With the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Q: How long are the terms of office?
A: One year. The Chair-Elect serves as Vice Chair for one year and as Chair the subsequent year.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: Yes. The Secretary may serve a maximum of two successive terms.

Q: Who can run for these offices?
A: Only faculty and staff representative members of the Library Assembly can run for these offices.

Q: Who can vote for these offices?
A: All members of the Library Assembly.


Senators

Based on current Personnel figures, the Libraries are permitted to have 5 people in the University Senate. For current Library members see the roster.

Q: How many positions are filled each year?
A: One. Every third year three.

Q: When are these elections held?
A: Nominations will open at the November or December Library Assembly meeting and close at the December or January Library Assembly meeting (depending upon the University Senate's election calendar and the frequency of Library Assembly meetings). The election must be concluded before the end of February (according to the University Senate).

Q: When does the term begin and end?
A: Begins in May and ends June 30.

Q: How long is the term of office?
A: Three years.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: Yes. Senators are not eligible for reelection.

Q: Who can run for these offices?
A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly can run for these offices.

Q: Who can vote for these offices?
A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly can vote for these offices.


Representatives on the Advisory Council of the Library Assembly

For information on the composition of the Advisory Council see the relevant section of the Plan of Organization. For current members see the roster. Most Advisory Council positions are ex officio but two representatives are elected each year from among the Library Assembly Exempt and Non-Exempt Representatives.

A: Two.

Q: When will these elections be held?
A: Nominations will open at the April Library Assembly meeting and close at the May Library Assembly meeting.

Q: When does the term begin and end?
A: With the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Q: How long are these terms?
A: One year.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: No.

Q: Who can run for these offices?
A: Library Assembly Staff Representatives.

Q: Who can vote for these offices?
A: Library Assembly Staff Representatives.

A: Yes. Members may not serve more than two consecutive terms.

Q: Who can run for these positions?
A: Any member of the Library Assembly.

Q: Who can vote for these positions?
A: All members of the Library Assembly.


Appointment, Promotion, and Permanent Status Committee (Standing)

Q: How many positions are filled each year?
A: Three.

Q: When will these elections be held?
A: Nominations will open at the February Library Assembly meeting and close at the March Library Assembly meeting.

Q: When does the term begin?
A: With the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Q: How long is the term of office?
A: Two years.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: Yes. Members may hold no more than two consecutive terms.

Q: Who can run for these positions?
A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly who are above the rank of Librarian II and have permanent status can run for these offices. Only Librarian IV's can run for the Librarian IV position.

Q: Who can vote for these positions?
A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly can vote for these offices.


Committee on Committees (Standing)

A: One.

A: No.

A: Any member of the Library Assembly.

Faculty Merit Committee (Standing)

A: Three one year, two the following year.

Q: When will these elections be held?
A: Nominations will open at the March Library Assembly meeting and close at the April Library Assembly meeting.

Q: When does the term begin and end?
A: With the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Q: How long is the term of office?
A: Two years.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: Yes. Members may serve no more than two full consecutive terms.

Q: Who can run for these offices?
A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly can run for these offices. Members of the Library Executive Council are ineligible for service on this Committee.

Q: Who can vote for these offices?
A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly can vote for these offices.


Faculty Annual Review Oversight Committee (Standing)

A: One. Every other year, two.

Q: When will these elections be held?

A: Two years.

A: No.

A: Only faculty members of the Library Assembly can run for these offices.

Staff Affairs Committee (Standing)

A: Two Exempt/Non-Exempt positions, one Faculty position, and one Graduate Assistant position.

Q: When will these elections be held?
A: Nominations will open at the March Library Assembly meeting and close at the April Library Assembly Meeting.

Q: When does the term begin and end?
A: With the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Q: How long is the term of office?
A: Two years for Exempt/Non-Exempt and Faculty members, one year for graduate assistant members.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: Yes. Members may serve no more than two consecutive terms.

Q: Who can run for these positions?
A: Only Exempt and Non-Exempt Library staff members may run for the Exempt/Non-Exempt positions; only Faculty may run for the Faculty positions; only Graduate Assistants may run for the Graduate Assistant positions.

Q: Who can vote for these positions?
A: Only Exempt and Non-Exempt staff members may vote for the Exempt/Non-Exempt positions; only Faculty may vote for the Faculty positions; only Graduate Assistants may vote for the Graduate Assistant positions.


Library Faculty Research Fund Committee (Standing)

Elected Representatives of Exempt and Non-Exempt Staff and Graduate Assistants

Q: How many positions are filled each year?
A: One third of the Exempt and Non-Exempt Representatives cycle off each year. All Graduate Assistant positions are filled each year.

Q: When will these elections be held?
A: For Exempt and Non-Exempt Staff: Nominations will open at the February Library Assembly meeting and close at the March Library Assembly Meeting. For Graduate Assistants: Nominations will open at the September Library Assembly meeting and close at the October Library Assembly Meeting.

Q: When does the term begin and end?
A: With the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

Q: How long is the term of office?
A: Three years for Exempt and Non-Exempt, one year for Graduate Assistants.

Q: Are there term limits?
A: No.

Q: Who can run for these offices?
A: Any Non-Exempt, Exempt and Graduate Assistant employee who has a permanent or contract appointment of at least 50% in the Libraries

Q: Who can vote for these offices?
A: All Non-Exempt, Exempt and Graduate Assistant employees.
