Assembly ResolutionsResolution on Mentoring Permanent Status Track LibrariansPassed by the Library Assembly on November 21, 2008 Whereas the University of Maryland Libraries are committed to hiring and retaining faculty members who grow in their professional knowledge and skills; Whereas the University of Maryland Libraries recognize that a mentoring system provides the maximum opportunity for a faculty member to achieve his or her potential and achieve success; Whereas a mentoring system in the Libraries is in compliance with policies and procedures promulgated by the University System Board of Regents, the University Senate, and the Libraries Plan of Organization; Therefore be it resolved that FAROC create a subcommittee1 on mentoring; That the work of this subcommittee is a shared responsibility between the Library Assembly (Standing Committees APPSC and FAROC) and the administrative unit of Human Resources2 That this subcommittee create a process to ensure each permanent status track faculty member will have a formal developmental mentor who is a faculty member, with the minimum rank of LIII with permanent status; That this subcommittee have the responsibility and authority to develop guidelines for and monitoring of the formal developmental mentoring process; That this subcommittee have the responsibility and authority to maintain a list of eligible mentors both participate in APPSC orientation for PRC members and are well-informed of the requirements for promotion and permanent status; And That this subcommittee provide an annual report to FAROC who will include their activities in their report to the Library Assembly and to the Dean on the status of the program. 1 Robers, p. 480, lines 11-17. 2 University Libraries' Plan of Organization assigns the responsibility for mentoring to APPSC and FAROC.
