Course Reserves Workshop
This hands-on-session will introduce you to the UM Libraries' new course reserves system. Learn how to request and add reserve items using the new system. New features will also be highlighted, such as how to track your materials through the process and receive email alerts once the items are available. You will also learn how students will access their course materials through ELMS (powered by Blackboard). These training workshops are intended for Faculty, department staff, and library staff. Other interested parties are welcome to attend. For more information on the content of this session, please contact Jamie Edwards (301-405-9181, jamyung@umd.edu) or Sharon Epps (301-405-9177, sepps@umd.edu). To register, please use the online registration form or email lib-learning@umd.edu with "Course Reserves Workshop" in the subject line of your email. Please also see the September 2008 calendar for more offerings of this workshop. Preparing for Poster Sessions
Do you need to create a poster for a conference? Many library associations now encourage poster presentations instead of papers or panels. This workshop will help you design a poster that communicates your ideas with visual effectiveness. The workshop includes a "show and tell" and hands-on practice in poster design. Bring your ideas! This session has been cancelled. University Travel System Training
In this hands-on workshop, learn how to use the online travel reporting system (ELF) to create and submit Travel Approval Request forms (TAR) and Travel Expense Statement (TES). To register, please use the online registration form or email lib-learning@umd.edu with "Travel Workshop" in the subject line of your email. New Graduate Assistant Orientation
In keeping with the University’s orientation policy, the Libraries' Graduate Assistant Orientation is a required informal information sharing program and serves as a way to provide all new GAs with a general overview of the UM Libraries. The goal of this session is to equip all new staff with information that will ensure their success as a new library employee. This session is for all new GAs hired from June 1 to the present. If you have any questions, please contact Johnnie Love (jlove1@umd.edu, x5-9048). Sexual Harassment Prevention Program
This workshop is for Library staff who have not participated in the Sexual Harassment Prevention Program training on the UMD campus. This training is required for all staff, including student workers and Graduate Assistants. Updates or refresher classes for staff will be planned at least bi-annually or more frequently as dictated by changed law or policy. Please contact Dawn Borgardt (x4-2677, dsb@umd.edu) if you have any questions about your eligibility for this training. In this session, you will learn how to recognize and resolve sexual harassment, learn ways a victim of sexual harassment can document incidents of harassment, learn EEOC's definition of quid pro quo and hostile environment harassment, learn about employer liability in harassment cases, and learn about resolution procedures available at UM and the University's sexual harassment prevention policy. Registration for this program is generally limited to 20 staff members.
