Staff Relations has begun to train the campus on the provisions of the new Exempt and Nonexempt collective
bargaining agreements (MOUs) with AFSCME which will run through June 30, 2010.
For those who never attended MOU training, or wish to have a "refresher" on all aspects of the entire Exempt
and Nonexempt MOUs (including changes), Staff Relations will offer full training; this training will take
approximately 3.5 hours as it will cover both MOUs in their entirety.
To register:
- Go to the Training at Maryland web site http://www.training.umd.edu
- Click on "UM Classroom Training."
- Log in with your Directory ID and password. *
Note:* If this is your first time on the site, you will need to complete the registration form. The MOU
training is no charge, so you do not need to worry about the FRS information at the bottom of the registration
form. Press SUBMIT.
- Click on "Course Catalog" at the top of the site (on the red menu bar).On the right side, under
"Training Categories", you will find and select "Memoranda of Understanding (MOU)."
- Press "Register for this section" on your selected class.
You will receive an automatic confirmation after registration.
You will also receive a reminder several days before the training. Any questions regarding the registration
process can be directed to Maurissa D. Stone, Assistant Director Employee Training & Development at
301-405-5651.

Staff Relations has begun to train the campus on the provisions of the new Exempt and Nonexempt collective
bargaining agreements (MOUs) with AFSCME which will run through June 30, 2010.
This session is designed to highlight the changes found in the new Exempt and Nonexempt MOUs. These sessions
will last approximately 90 minutes. Most managers, supervisors and confidential employees in their positions
in 2004 probably attended the earlier training and can enroll in a "changes only" class.
Prerequisites: Attendance of MOU training in 2004 (or in the quarterly sessions offered after
initial training was complete).

frustrations regarding preparing for promotion review. We will discuss:
- The role and value mentoring offers, including topics you and your mentor might want to address,
- What do you do if you aren’t receiving sufficient or helpful mentoring,
- The advantages of a mentoring “team,” and
- As a group, what you would like to communicate to those who are/will be mentors.

High quality mentoring has been shown to be a key component of junior faculty success. In this session, we’ll discuss what
constitutes such mentoring here at the University Libraries. This will include:
- Your interests, questions, and frustrations regarding the role of mentoring,
- Pre-permanent status faculty’s thoughts about mentoring,
- Topics you and your mentee might discuss,
- How to handle problems that may arise, and
- Any issues that need to be resolved in order to facilitate the success of this mentoring program.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Program

This workshop is for Library staff who have not participated in the Sexual Harassment Prevention Program
training on the
UMD campus. This training is required for all staff, including student workers and Graduate Assistants.
Updates or refresher
classes for staff will be planned at least bi-annually or more frequently as dictated by changed law or
policy. Please contact

eligibility for
this training.
In this session, you will learn how to recognize and resolve sexual harassment, learn ways a victim of
sexual harassment
can document incidents of harassment, learn EEOC's definition of quid pro quo and hostile environment
harassment, learn about
employer liability in harassment cases, and learn about resolution procedures available at UM and the
University's sexual
harassment prevention policy.
