Faculty Activity Report (FAR) Training
In 2004 the University of Maryland College of Engineering instituted a new online reporting system called “Faculty Activity Reports,” or FAR. That system now applies to all academic units on campus, including the Libraries. Library faculty will need to use this system to report activities undertaken in calendar year 2007, and to comply with the campus “Conflict of Interest” reporting requirement. In this hands-on session, participants will receive an overview of the online FAR, and will have an opportunity to work on their individual reports. Participants are encouraged to bring citations of any awards received, conference presentations, papers or other publications submitted during 2007 to enter in to their individual FAR during this workshop. This session is limited to 20 participants. Additional sessions will be offered February 20 and March 4. To register, please use our online registration form or e-mail the lib-learning reflector (lib-learning@umd.edu). Please put "FAR Training" in the subject line of your e-mail. Project Management
Join presenter John Houser (PALINET) as he presents this full-day, hands-on workshop covering the basics of project management, including an exploration of the role of the project manager and the skills required. The session also covers communication with stakeholders, meeting management, decision making, and time and progress tracking. This session is open to all involved in projects - whether as a project leader or team member. This session has been cancelled. Clearing the Fog on Performance Reviews
This is a two-hour workshop designed for supervisors responsible for evaluating staff. It is intended to serve as a review/refresher of the Performance Review & Development (PRD) process. The training will involve understanding the role of the supervisor and the role of the employee in performance management, how to conduct the evaluation, and an overview of the PRD forms and where to find them. This session has been cancelled. An additional session of this workshop will be offered February 7. To register for the February session, please use our online registration form or e-mail the lib-learning reflector (lib-learning@umd.edu). Please put "PRD Training" in the subject line of your e-mail. Sexual Harassment Prevention Program
This workshop is for Library staff who have not participated in the Sexual Harassment Prevention Program training on the UMD campus. This training is required for all staff, including student workers and Graduate Assistants. Updates or refresher classes for staff will be planned at least bi-annually or more frequently as dictated by changed law or policy. Please contact Jenny Kinniff (x4-2677, jkinniff@umd.edu) if you have any questions about your eligibility for this training. In this session, you will learn how to recognize and resolve sexual harassment, learn ways a victim of sexual harassment can document incidents of harassment, learn EEOC's definition of quid pro quo and hostile environment harassment, learn about employer liability in harassment cases, and learn about resolution procedures available at UM and the University's sexual harassment prevention policy. Registration for this program is generally limited to 20 staff members.
