Course Reserves Workshop
This hands-on-session will introduce you to the UM Libraries' new course reserves system which will be available beginning Summer 2008. Learn how to request and add reserve items using the new system. New features will also be highlighted, such as how to track your materials through the process and receive email alerts once the items are available. You will also learn how students will access their course materials through ELMS/Blackboard. These training workshops are intended for Faculty and interested library staff, especially those who work at service desks. RSS (which stands for: Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary, depending upon the source) is a Web 2.0 technology that is gaining popularity within the Library community, and lets information come to you as your favorite websites are updated. If you've ever asked yourself the question "What is RSS and what can it do for me?" - this is the session for you! This program, designed for RSS novices, will help demystify the concept of RSS, and introduce several commonly-used RSS tools. At the end of the overview portion of the program, participants will be able to "stay and play" with the various RSS tools introduced during the session. This session is now full. On June 18 at 3 p.m., the Libraries will host a lecture by R. David Lankes, a provocative leader and speaker and a powerful advocate for libraries. His presentation is titled, "You are the Future of Libraries: No Pressure." Dr. Lankes directs the Information Institute of Syracuse (IIS) and is also associate professor at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies. This lecture is part of the UM Libraries' Path to the Future series that presents visionary leaders in information technology and services. It will be in 6137 McKeldin Library. No RSVPs are required. This workshop is for Library staff who have not participated in the Sexual Harassment Prevention Program training on the UMD campus. This training is required for all staff, including student workers and Graduate Assistants. Updates or refresher classes for staff will be planned at least bi-annually or more frequently as dictated by changed law or policy. Please contact Jenny Kinniff (x4-2677, jkinniff@umd.edu) if you have any questions about your eligibility for this training./p> In this session, you will learn how to recognize and resolve sexual harassment, learn ways a victim of sexual harassment can document incidents of harassment, learn EEOC's definition of quid pro quo and hostile environment harassment, learn about employer liability in harassment cases, and learn about resolution procedures available at UM and the University's sexual harassment prevention policy. Registration for this program is generally limited to 20 staff members.
