Welcome to New University of Maryland Libraries' Faculty

University Maryland Libraries' Orientation Program:

The New Staff Orientation Program is designed to welcome and equip each new library staff member with information that will enhance their ability to perform assigned duties and responsibilities, and to ensure their success in the Library workplace. In keeping with the University’s Orientation policy, the Libraries’ New Staff Orientation is a required informal information-sharing program that serves as a critical tool for acclimating staff to the library as well as to the University community. It also provides each new employee the opportunity to get an overview of the Libraries’ concept of the learning organization, and its commitment to the principle of continuous improvement and life long learning. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each new library staff member to take advantage of this valuable tool and process.

The overall program includes the following areas of special interest to new staff:

  • Orientation to Payroll and Benefits
(Enrollment for employment with Lupe Fernandes)
  • Orientation to assigned Division, Department, Unit, and Job
(To be completed by your immediate supervisor)
  • Overview of the Libraries’ mission, services, policies and procedures, programs, performance review, professional development opportunities and plans
(To be completed with me, Johnnie Love, Coordinator of Personnel Programs)
The New Staff Orientation program is designed to address concerns of each group of employees: new library faculty, staff, graduate assistant, and student assistant. Each new staff member receives an orientation letter from Johnnie Love, the Coordinator of Personnel Programs. The Coordinator for Recruitment, Lupe Fernandes, also shares information about new staff orientation as each new staff member completes their personnel paperwork and benefits information.
