Library Support for External Learning and Development Activities Allocations | Instructions and More Information | In 2005, the Library Executive Council approved a one-year pilot of an expanded travel program, to support library employees' participation in conferences, workshops, or other service, learning, professional and/or scholarly activities for FY 2006. This program will continue in FY 2007. Non-exempt staff can have registrations paid (or reimbursed) for workshops, conferences, etc., up to $250 per person for FY 2007. The nonexempt staff member's director must give prior approval for the individual to participate in the activity. Exempt staff will have individual allotments of $500 each for the fiscal year and can use the funds for any regular category of travel expenses: registration, travel, lodging, meals. Advance approval of the individual's director is required. Graduate assistants will have $250 per person and can use their allotments as other exempt staff members use theirs. Advance supervisory approval is required. Library faculty with permanent status will have a yearly allotment of $1,100. Library faculty without permanent status will have $1,400 for the fiscal year starting July 1. Library faculty, exempt staff and non-exempt staff who are employed on contracts are eligible for travel support. Contractual employees whose salaries are paid from sources other than the Libraries’ regular state budget – e.g., grant, cooperative agreement, consortium -- must first attempt to use those sources of funds to pay their travel expenses. If funds are unavailable from those sources, the Libraries may pay. Directors will be responsible for approving travel and for determining the source of payment. Yearly allotments will be $250 for non-exempt staff, $500 for exempt staff and $1,100 for library faculty. (Note: Currently, all travel expenditures paid through the travel system must have directors' approval.) Funds for non-exempt staff and exempt staff (including graduate assistants) not used in FY 2007 will remain in the Libraries' operating budget. They will not be reallocated to other staff members. Any reallocation of funds for library faculty will depend on the Libraries' budget outlook in the early spring of 2007.
