Library Executive Council
Minutes of the Meeting - March 16, 2004

Present: Lowry, Rough, Ruschoff, D. Vikor, Williams, and Wilson
Facilitator: Williams, Scribe: Wilson, Timekeeper: Rough

1. Topic: Learning Curriculum
Leader: Williams
Guest: Maggie Saponaro

Outcome: LEC to encourage leaders and supervisors to attend sessions, particularly upcoming ones in April: Rewards in Tough Times, Conflict Management, and Giving and Receiving Feedback. It is critically important that individuals who register actually attend sessions. If attendance is not possible, the individual must inform the Learning Curriculum Team at lib-learning@umail. The directors are encouraged to prompt the remaining people who have not yet attended Module 1 of the customer service series to attend the session being offered on April 28.

2. Topic: Earned Income (continued)
Leaders: Lowry and Williams
Guest: Ray Foster

Outcome: The Earned Income Committee (EIC) will do “hard cost” estimates for each current and proposed endeavor. Current revenue generating activities (including the EPSL pilot online book sale) will continue for the time being. Changes to various income-producing activities may occur in FY05 pending recommendations to LEC from the EIC.

3. Topic: Travel Funds
Leader: Lowry

Outcome: Additional professional travel funds for some requests were approved. Each director will contact the effected individuals and will let Denise Wright know approved amounts. Lowry will email the invitation to the PALINET meeting in Baltimore to all staff. Release time will be granted with supervisor’s approval. No funding will be provided.

4. Topic: Announcements
Lowry is a panelist for IMLS recruitment grant applications.
Rough will be speaking at the SERA/VidE next week.
Vikor will be hosting visitors from the National Diet Library in Japan.
Ruschoff will be attending the PCC/Conser Summit on Serials.
