Topic: McK’s Welcome Desk
Leader: Vikor; Guest: Cindy Todd

The Welcome Desk is currently scheduled 40 hours per week, but, for example, only 19 hours are staffed the week of September 13.
Outcome: LEC reaffirmed its commitment to the Welcome Desk as a core service for the Libraries, not to be eliminated. Ruschoff, Todd, and Wray will develop a proposal for staffing arrangements that will include some combination of staff, GAs, and L & A.

Topic: USMAI Development Plan

Outcome: Discussed further the plan drafted by Wilson. Future changes will be tracked.

Topic: Pop-ups
  • Ruschoff and Wilson briefly reviewed the recent International Conference of Aleph Users (ICAU) meeting. Highlights include Ex Libris’s commitment to Patron Placed Holds (PPH), less troubling upgrades in the future, and continued work between the North American Aleph Users Group (NAAUG) and the ICAU.
  • Vikor requested funding for McElrath to attend the memorial service for a long-time donor to the National Trust Library. LEC approved.
  • Williams requested attendance at the CNI Forum “E-Research and Supporting Cyberinfrastructure: A Forum to Consider the Implications for Research Libraries & Research Institutions,” on November 18 for herself. LEC approved. Marietta Plank has already registered.

Topic: Announcements

  • Ruschoff: The PALINET annual meeting will be held in Atlantic City, NJ, October 28-29. Keynote Speakers are Michael Gorman, President Elect of ALA, and Keith Michael Fiels, ALA Executive Director. Cathy De Rosa, VP-Corporate Marketing, OCLC will present "The Value and Values of Libraries," which reports the outcomes of OCLC's environmental scan. The early bird deadline for registering and reserving a hotel room is Sept. 27, 2004. Directors wishing to attend should let Carlen know by Sept. 25. The registration will be handled through the PALINET account.
  • Wilson will be making a presentation on Shibboleth technology to the USM Information Technology Coordinating Council, Friday, September 17.
