Topic: Policy and Process for Merit Pay
At C-team's request, Sue Baughman, Denise Wright and Jane Williams drafted a document that pulls together and codifies library and campus policy and practice for merit review for nonexempt staff, exempt staff, and library faculty.
Outcomes:
- LEC approved the draft as is. Williams will review with Lowry.
- It will be presented at June all-staff meetings, if the schedule of presenters allows.
- Directors will review the document with their direct reports.
- Williams will clarify that the campus PRD Web site has information on how an overall "meets expectations" for nonexempt staff is arrived at.
- The document will be posted to Library Personnel's Web site, with links from Personnel Programs' merit information and from the Library Faculty Assembly.
Topic: Administrative Travel Guidelines
Williams revised the present guidelines, to provide clearer categories and process for consideration.
Outcomes:
- LEC accepted the draft guidelines with a few changes and clarifications yet to be made.
- Williams will review with Lowry.
- Once adopted, the new guidelines will replace the present ones on the Libraries' travel pages on the Web.

Library Assessment Conference
Two UM presentations have been accepted for this September 25-27, 2006,conference co-sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries, the University of Virginia and the University of Washington: outcomes-based evaluation as applied to the Libraries' Learning Curriculum (Dillon and Saponaro) and the Organizational Culture and Diversity Assessment (Baughman, Love, Lowry, Saponaro).
Outcome: Administrative travel funds will support the presenters for this conference.
LEC/C-team Retreat May 24-26, 2006
Outcomes: LEC agreed to the revised draft agenda. D. Vikor and Williams will review with Lowry.
Training for Library Staff
Outcome: The group expressed support for Williams' investigation of bringing campus-sponsored workshops to the Libraries this summer: training on the collective bargaining agreements (both as a refresher for supervisors who've had the training and as new training for new supervisors) and a workshop on the fundamentals of employee discipline.
C-team Agenda
Outcome: On May 11 the group will begin reviewing its assignments to follow up on the Facilitators Team's review of teams, groups and committees (begun as part of the redirection-of-effort project in the Library Administrative Group).
Announcements:
Wray and Baughman commented on the great success of the previous week's LOEX conference, planned and hosted by UM Libraries, and the excellent work of the planning committee.
Williams reported that the Facilities Council asked the Libraries and the Office of Information Technology to revise their proposal for facilities renewal funds to prepare second-floor space in McKeldin for the Terrapin Learning Commons. The revised proposal will go to VPs Destler and Porcari.
