Library Executive CouncilLEC e-mail Listserv list: library-lec@umd.edu The Library Executive Council (LEC) is composed of the Dean of Libraries, the Assistant Dean for Organizational Development, Directors of the five Library Divisions, and the current chair of the Library Assembly. The LEC operates as a self-managed team within the spirit of the UM Libraries' practice of a team-based organizational model (e.g., Working Paper #1 www.lib.umd.edu/PUB/team_management.html). The weekly meetings of the LEC bring together the Libraries' senior management team and principally focus on administrative matters that have a system wide impact and serve as an opportunity to more closely coordinate and communicate work among members. The LEC holds the responsibility for the planning and policy decisions affecting the Libraries and delegating the work of the organization to task groups or units. The LEC communicates decisions outward to the library staff and to the broader campus community. Final accountability for all decisions rests with the Dean of Libraries. C-Team(discontinued January 2009)This focus on operational problem solving is mirrored by separate meetings of the LEC, referred to as the C-Team (Council Team). The C-Team deals with policy and planning rather than operational matters by discussing and exploring long term programmatic and organizational issues. Meeting once a month for 4 to 5 hours, this group generally makes no decisions but refers them back to LEC or other groups for further exploration and decision-making. Issues and information from these meetings are conveyed through reports and memoranda. | ||
