Nominations

Nominations open during one Library Assembly Meeting and close at the subsequent meeting.

Opening Nominations

Announce the opening of the nomination period on the floor of an Library Assembly Meeting. Remind people of:

  • How many positions are vacant
  • When the terms begin and end
  • How long the term is
  • Who can run
  • How to make a nomination
  • When the nominations will close

Send the above information by e-mail to all library staff after the Library Assembly Meeting.

Making Nominations

Ask the Personnel Office for a current list of librarians and their divisional affiliation, rank and status.

Check the Committee's eligibility page.

According to Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, a nominating committee should identify one candidate per vacancy.

The NEVPC can accept nominations from others. People can self-nominate or nominate someone else. If a person is nominating someone else, the nominator must be sure that the person accepts the nomination. The Committee should check eligibility as well as contact those nominated by others before putting a person’s name on the ballot.

Closing Nominations

At least 5 business days prior to the LFA Meeting at which nominations will close, announce the slate to the library staff reflector. Remind people that nominations will be accepted from the floor of that Library Assembly Meeting.

At the Library Assembly Meeting, announce the slate of candidates. Ask if there are any nominations from the floor. (If nominations are made from the floor, nominees must be both eligible and willing to serve.)

Formally announce the close of the nominations. Indicate when ballots will be sent, who should receive them, and when they will be due.
