Quick search is for searching books & articles. 2- Quick Search searches only for books and articles, Search this Site gives info about the library, administration, hours, staff, resources, etc. 3- Quick Search seems to only search through the librarys catalog. The Search this Site seems to search through the site index and/or library homepage related links. 4-Quick search is for books & articles search this site for everything. 5- Quick Search only looks for books & articles (catalog) and search this site has additional info. 6-Search his site searches the entire site. Quick search only searches the catalog, journals and databases. 7-Quick search is for searching for looks & articles and search this Site is for navigating through the librarys website. 8-Quick search can be an engine to search the web-sites other then the UM Libraries page. Search this Site obviously only searches the UM Libraries page. 9-Quick search looks for books or articles that the library might have on a topic, whereas Search this Site looks for info available directly on the website and would be used to find info about the library rather that topics of research. 10-Search this Site searches all pages w/in www.umd.edu. Quick Search searches catalog. 11-Search this site should be the google appliance search of www.lib.umd.edu Quick Search should be a search of the catalog limited to books and journals. 12-Quick search restricts itself to 13-Searching this site includes everything from books to events, etc. Quick search is mostly for books, articles, etc. 14-Search this site Info about library and links. Quick Search link to Catalog. 15-Quick Search is for finding books & articles. Search this site can be used to search anything available on the site, such as database links, contact info. Etc. 16-Quick Search probably searches the Library Catalog, while search this Site probably searches the material on the Library website. 17-Search this Site will only search the UMD library system, while quick search will search the entire web. 18-Search this site searches the entire website. Graduate-Search this site is for info such as phone numbers, library info. Quick search is for books and articles. What are your overall impressions of this page? 1-Pretty ease to use. Im not sure if the old page had a direct link to Research Port, that would be a good addition I so. 2-Easy to navigate through, user-friendly. 3-I think the overall layout is aesthetically pleasing. However, I might repeat some links in the gray area such as Ask Us! 4-A little crowded 5-There are a lot of links and menus. A little confusing on the organization. 6-Its ok, I dont find it harder or easier to use that the previous home page. 7-I think there is too much there. I prefer the current web page with fewer things on the home page. 8-Good, not too overloaded with possible choices 9-Looks good. 10-Not bad but I hope I can easily get to EBSCO & LexisNexis (the best two databases) by clicking databases 11-Simple and well layed out. The picture about in the middle is corney though and wastes bandwidth. I wonder how it looks at 800-600 though its in wide page. Also, please make it standard compliant not everyone uses MSIE. 12-Mostly understandable 13-Very good. It has he most important links one would want on it. 14-It is nice :) I liked the new UM Digital stuff. I had not known about that. 15-I think this interface is friendlier that the current UM Library homepage. 16-I like the setup and the quick search option. Overall, it seems easy to use and easy to find information. 17-I think its very well put together, and simple to use. 18-Good. I think maybe quick search should be on the site, center of the page seems like a weird place for a search box, otherwise very nice page. 19-I like it. Easy to read. Especially catalog and research Port *But I would really like to see a link for your account or renew your books b/c I had to call to figure out how to do online renewals before. Graduate-Research Port and catalog dont stand out enough. The Quick search isnt clear its not clear whether it would take me to he catalog or to the database. What do you like best about this page? What do you think you would use most? 1-As always I would use and like Research Port the most 2-I like that catalog and Research Port are the focus. It makes sense. I use Research Port a lot. It is very helpful 3-I like that the page is divided into frames. Also, research port is clearly shown on the front page. Since I use Research Port the most on the site currently, this is important. 4-Catalog books 5-I would use the links to research port the most and I like how it is in the center. 6-I like the added UM Digital Collections section. I would probably use research port most. 7-I like the research port and thats probably what I would use most. I also like the reference shelf option. 8-Catalogue 9-Well organized. I will use the Databases and the catalog most, as I generally know specific enough info that the quick search is not ideal in my case most of the time. 10-Its fairly clear; Id use the catalog/databases the most 11-I would probably use the Quick search. I have terrible luck with the full search anyway. The chat option is pretty cool too though. 12-Catalog and Research Port; My Account 13-Testudo :) Catalog & the Research Port. 14-Research Port is now much easier to get to. Same with the Catalog. I also like the Libraries news. 15-The Quick Search facility as I mostly use the library page to find books. So, now I don#&146;t have to click on several links to go to the actual search page. 16-I like best & think I would use most the Quick search feature. 17-Its well organized and not too cluttered. I would use the quick search most often. 18-Catalog and Research Port headings are clearly displayed. 19-Catalog & Research Port Graduate-The yellow and black at bottom a nice framing of the page. Is there anything you would like to see on the Libraries home page that you do not see on this page? 1-Nothing I can think of. 2-Log-in from home, but I know you can find out about that under How do I ? 3-A link to a map of the campus would be nice. Also, if there is a pdf file map of the library online, then a link to that should be included. 4-No 5-Maybe a link to contact a librarian 6-Nope, looks good to me. 7- 8-A link to request material from other libraries within & without the UMD system. 9-I would like to see an access your account link right on the front page I utilize it a lot. It would also be nice to be able to access my interlibrary loan articles through my account rather than through a separate system. 10-Nope 11-A link to that huge list of databases and a link to a list off all the library/course web pages. 12-Clearer search options for newspaper articles 13-No. 14- A live chat/blackboard with a librarian direct link. And a link for beginning users. A Quick how to do research using this site tutorial. 15-I wish there were an advanced search link beside quick search which would obviously have advanced search facility. 16-Nope. 17-A link to another search engine such as Google or Yahoo. 18-No. 19- (1)Your Account or renew your books, (2) Ask Librarian, (3) Definitions search box. Graduate-Information about where to find specific information in the libraries. A link to a libraries map. Do you have any suggestions for improving this page? 1-Nope 2-Customize feature, so that the databases and journals you use frequently are shown 3- 4- cant think of anything @ present, 5- 6- 7- 8-Dont take up space with photo of Reference Desk can use image as waterrmark or wallpaper if must include. Otherwise, use that space for info that changes. 9-No suggestions other than those listed on the previous page. 10-Not really 11-get rid of the image in the middle, add the links I suggested. Add a library with so users could comment and help one another. 12- 13-No. this is pretty good. 14-Include a beginning research tutorial for new students. A blackboard/Live Chat with Librarian option. 15-None for the homepage. But I do wish you had better search facilities like Google. I thought Mr. Brin let us use some of his product, couldnt you integrate that technology with your existing webpage? 16-Nope. 17-(see previous question) 18-No. 19-Same comment as the previous ones. Graduate- See previous. Remove picture of testudo in the library. Replace with picture of testudo sculpture in front of library. UM Libraries wants to meet with undergraduate students in testing the usability of the new home page design. How would you suggest we get in contact with your peers? 1-By asking students while they are in the library if they can help. 2-Email survey. 3-Offer money if possible. If you pay them, they will come. 4-Do an online survey. Pop-up sort of thing when they open up the librarys home page. 5-Maybe an ad in the diamondback or an article. 6- 7-Send emails 8-Email them with link to homepage and link to survey/suggestions page. 9-Email is usually easiest. 10-Make it mandatory or e.c. for classes, offer an incentive to students target them as they come into the library. 11-Through their colleges, flyers and through the living learning communities. Have scholars/honors, Civicus, language house, UNIV 100, beyond the classroom give the survey as mandatory over the summer. I have no idea. 12-Honors listserve group mail: Put the new design at a different location and allow user testing and feedback. 13-Have faculty inform their students. 14-Have the orientation students test it. This kills two birds with one stone Incoming students learn the site. They are a captive audience and can be gathered quickly 15-The department advisor. Maybe send e-mails to all the students in my major (physics) about any test you want to hold. Sometimes send such e-mails.
