Staff Learning and Development Office and Co-Sponsored Activities

The Staff Learning and Development (SLD) Office provides educational programs and resources for all staff in the Libraries, under the umbrella of the Learning Curriculum. The Learning Curriculum is a comprehensive education program that supports individual and organizational development. The Staff Learning Office collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Organizational Development, the Personnel Programs Coordinator, and other individuals and groups in the Libraries and University. The “Learning Curriculum Team” consists of the SLD manager and GA, the Assistant Dean for Organizational Development and any other GAs or other individuals who might at a given time be assigned to Staff Learning and Development or Organizational Development.

Occasionally, other units within the Libraries offer to provide education or training that is open to all staff. When the planned activity is of general interest and will be open or advertised to all staff, it should be co-sponsored by the SLD Office. Benefits to the unit proposing the activities are the following:

  • Coordination of calendars and decreased likelihood of over-scheduled or competing activities;
  • Collaboration with the Learning Curriculum Team’s experts on content and structure of the proposed activity;
  • Access to the SLD Office’s standard systems and procedures for advertising, registration, agenda-setting and evaluations.

Co-sponsorship benefits the Libraries by continuing to add content to the Learning Curriculum based upon the needs of the Libraries.

On-the-job-training and peer training offered to a specific group should continue to be separate from the Learning Curriculum and from the SLD Office.
