SECT Minutes, January 8, 2008

Topic: Adjustments to the Agenda and Approval of December Minutes

Outcomes: The agenda was finalized. Minutes were approved for posting on the SECT website.


Topic: Update on LC Evaluation

Outcomes: Maggie Saponaro presented a draft LC Evaluation Proposal. This will be an outside evaluation. Upon review of the draft document, several suggestions were made, including:

  • Justification for funding support of the LC evaluation
  • A need to justify staff participation activities LC
  • Get information from Irma on other institutions and their assessment of staff development curriculum.

Jane stated that LEC would want to talk with Denise Wright in regards to budget. SECT members complimented Maggie on the proposal and an update will be forthcoming.


Topic: Spring Program Schedule

Outcomes: Maggie Saponaro discussed LC workshops for spring 2008. Workshops discussed were:

  • Faculty Activity Report Training (January 17th)
  • Performance Management for Supervisors (Jan. 29th and Feb 7th) Brown and Love, facilitators
  • Professional Writing (April 16th)

Topic: Blogging Workshop Recap

Outcome: Jenny Kinniff discussed the OCLC blogging workshop she attended in December. She stated it was basic in concept and answered questions such as “What are blogs and how to access them? She stated that the class was not a “tech class.” nor was it a lot of “hands on” experience as well. As we design our workshop on blogging techniques for training will be different. Sue expressed she felt our training should begin at a very basic level. Current blogs in the Library should be one way of addressing our training. We could utilize existing departmental and/or divisional blogs. The way we set up blogs is through ITD. We could develop a “dummy blog” for demonstration and have people log-in. The training will be offered in late spring.


Topic: Round Robin

Outcome: Information sharing.

  • Bob shared photos of the “computerized baby” the exchange student staying with his family used for a class project.
  • Christine Sumlin was commended for her TERP Tip article on RSS Feed that appeared in the January Learning InterSECTion.
  • Jenny discussed training being planned for Office 2007.
  • With regards to the Publications workshop planned for April, the session is designed for Librarians writing for publication, but is open to anyone interested in the topic.
  • Sue Koutsky discussed the salvage training workshop for nonprint materials she is planning. Specific groups have been identified to participate in this training.


February Meeting Agenda Setting

Outcome: Topics listed tentatively for the February 12th meeting are:

  1. LC Evaluation
  2. Review of the statistics form
  3. Bring positive quotes---Bring quotes on training, learning and technology
